Bluffton’s Corner Perk coffee shop recently experienced significant damage after a drunk driver crashed into the shop and a parked car. The driver, Rene Morales Diaz, was arrested for driving under the influence and later released from the Beaufort County Detention Center.
The impact shattered glass, damaged planters, and caused tables and chairs to flip over, but thankfully no one was injured. The owner of Corner Perk, Josh Cooke, expressed his gratitude to the town’s public service department for their assistance in cleaning up the damage caused by the incident.
Despite the unfortunate event, the coffee shop did not have to close and is still open for business as usual. Cooke sees the accident as an opportunity to revamp the business and reimagine the space after losing landscaping and furniture. He hopes that the incident will serve as a reminder to people not to drink and drive and will prevent similar accidents from occurring in the future.
